The range reflects the spirit of Eaton who is no stranger to pushing boundaries. The same could be said for the men who choose to wear his clothes. In 2004 Eaton became the youngest designer ever to present a solo runway show at Australian Fashion Week, his flamboyant range leaving our shores for the catwalks of Paris, where he has infected the runways and stores of Paris, Tokyo and London. In the latter two, he has also collaborated with High Street giant Top Shop.
From his forward-thinking, thought-provoking shows at 2008 Rosemount Australian Fashion week, Savvy Style picked out the top three looks for boys who like their materials to be anything but normal…
1. Bright’s Alright! If something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing in fluoro… Don’t be afraid of a bit of colour. If Material Boy’s “release your inner gay” collection is anything to go by, absolutely no colour combination is off limits! Ironically, it’s a boy-meets-girl kind of collection. Think fluoro-coloured skinny jeans or tight thigh-length shorts teamed with boldly patterned shirt.
Note to Men: skinny jeans only look good on skinny people, so if you’re a boy with a bit of booty, skin-tight fluoro is not your friend.
2. Wear Oversized T-shirts with the letter M on it. M is for Material Boy... Or it could be for McDonalds, Misfit, Mummy’s Boy, or perhaps you are married?
3. Rules are made to be broken… The age-old rule that dictates that blue and green ought not be seen unless there’s another colour in between will be the first to go this season if the catwalks are anything to go by. Bright royal blue teamed with forest green, with nought in between was all over the catwalk. Liven up your life by mixing it up!
